HEAD TO THE (HOT CHOCOLATE) BAR

Beware weak-willed chocoholics! Though our neighborhood Jacques Torres Chocolate boutique is not the first in the city, it’s certainly our favorite. The headquarters of the acclaimed artisan’s chocolate-making empire, the colorful space prominently showcases the high-tech tools Torres uses to turn cacao beans into what some believe is the world’s finest hand-crafted chocolate. The exuberant 8,000-square-foot space is part industrial, part retail and all fun. Towers of beautifully boxed chocolates, tins of hot chocolate and jar upon jar of hot fudge sauce, plus truffles, cookies and caramels, make this a must-see for anyone who likes their bon-bons free of preservatives, oils, extracts and additives. And should you feel the flu setting in on a blustery winter day, head to the hot chocolate bar for Torres’ Wicked Hot Chocolate, a cold-clearing blend of allspice, cinnamon and chili peppers. And don’t forget to raise a toast to Torres, who (not surprisingly) answers to “Mr. Chocolate.”
