Not Your Average Movie Theater

Do you ever get bored with the big box office movies that are constantly playing at most cinemas? If your answer is "yes," then Manhattan's Film Forum is the place for you. The only nonprofit cinema in New York City, this forty-four year old institution forgoes commercial movies in favor of a very uncommon line up of films, both old and new, which resonate today. Three separate screening rooms show foreign and American indie films, documentaries, and restored classics. And, while the seats are a little uncomfortable, the concession stand serves up some top-notch cookies and arguably the best popcorn in New York City. So, next time you're in the neighborhood, grab a cushion and settle in for a very exceptional night at the movies.

The Film Forum is located at 209 West Houston Street in New York City.
