Now Playing in SoHo
The historic SoHo Playhouse is a 199-seat Off Broadway theater that has entertained guests for over a century. Once the site of a colonial mansion in which General George Washington devised Revolutionary War strategy, near the end of the 19th century, the building became the Huron Club, a popular venue frequented by many New York luminaries, including infamous “Night Mayor” Jimmy “Beau James” Walker. In the 1920s the main floor was converted into a theater, which by mid-century had become the playhouse of master playwright and director Edward Albee. Today you can catch a wide variety of performances at the SoHo Playhouse, including Katie Goodman’s Broad Comedy, which runs through May 20, and the gripping one-man show “On One Condition,” which runs through May 26. Lovers of sci-fi should mark their calendars for the 5th annual Philip K. Dick Science Fiction Film Festival events on May 27 and 28. Best of all, when the show’s done, you’re just steps away from your luxurious room at Hotel Hugo.
