TIME TRAVEL, TO A JAZZY TUNE
If dancing the Charleston and donning a straw boater seem more your style, there's a distinct possibility you were born in the wrong era. This summer, head to Governors Island for the Jazz Age Lawn Party. Scheduled for two weekends – June 14 – 15 and August 16 – 17 – this festive, prohibition era-inspired outdoor gathering showcases founder Michael Arenella and his Dreamland Orchestra, plus performances and activities ranging from a 1920s motorcar exhibition to vintage portraits and a Charleston dance contest. From our Hudson Square hotel, take the ferry at the Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street. And while you don't have to dress up, it's strongly encouraged. At the very least, bring your boater – this is your chance to cavort with New Yorkers and visitors who are similarly stuck in a Roaring 20's time warp.
